national voice for every American's right to age well, has an
exciting opportunity for a Senior Financial Analyst in its
Arlington, VA/Crystal City office.The Senior Financial Analyst is
responsible for developing reports and financial analyses to serve
both internal and external customers of NCOA. This position reports
directly to the Senior Director of Finance & Contract Management
for overall management, direction, and attainment of goals and
objectives; and indirectly to the CFO and to other internal
department heads of NCOA.The Finance Department serves internal
clients (various program and functional areas) in analyzing,
budgeting, and tracking expenditures and forecasts for various
projects. External clients (primarily funders but also various
regulatory, audit and other bodies) also require many reports,
financial updates, and various schedules. While there are
similarities among certain types of general reporting, the formats
and detail requirements are quite varied, and the volume of
requests is quite substantial. The Finance Department recently
migrated (in mid-2022) to Spreadsheet Server, an Excel-based report
writing tool through Insight Software. The Senior Financial Analyst
is a key report developer, responsible for automating many manual
schedules and creating new reporting tools for efficient project
management and analysis.Key responsibilities include the
following:
- Manage and deliver detailed financial analysis services,
coordinating with other Finance department staff as needed to
provide such services, and participate as a staff member of the
Finance Department.
- Analyze project status, prepare progress reports, and work with
program managers on rolling forecasts for the following areas:
- DOL SCSEP (Senior Community Services Employment Program).
- ACL COVID-19 and Influenza Vaccine Uptake Initiative ($50M
grant awarded on 12/19/22).
- Economic Security Programs (Age Well
Planner/BenefitsCheckUp/Center for Benefits Access
Non-Federal).
- External Affairs Programs (Fund Development/Annual
Conference/General Communications).
- Human Resources.
- Others as assigned.
- Work with the Senior Director of Finance & Contract Management,
the CFO, and other staff to provide accurate, timely and
high-quality financial analyses of NCOA operations and program
activities, including staffing and expenditure tracking across a
matrixed organization.
- For assigned areas, review monthly project status and other
reports to ensure all transactions are coded accurately and apply
corrective methods as needed, request reclasses and reallocations
as appropriate.
- Assist with reclasses and other schedules related to the
monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting period closings (both
pre- and post-closing).
- Assist program leads with the preparation of budgets for new
proposals.
- Assist program leads with the preparation of their annual
project budgets and with the monthly update of their rolling
forecasts.
- Prepare periodic financial reporting required by some funders
on various programs, as well as detailed analyses, support, and
forecasts of spending on those programs.
- Use Spreadsheet Server, the Excel-based report-writer tool, to
convert manual schedules to automated reports; work with program
leads to determine their specific project management needs and
create customized reports based on those needs.
- Perform analyses as needed to assist management with financial
decisions regarding the strategic direction of the
department/programs.
- Responsible for ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned by
the Senior Director of Finance & Contract Management, the CFO, or
the Executive Team.Professional Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting field; Graduate
level courses or degree preferred.
- Expertise in modeling and analysis tools, including Excel;
Experience or training in report-writer tools preferred.
- 5+ years professional finance/accounting experience - Nonprofit
and Government contractor experience preferred.
- 3+ years of strong analytical, budgeting and planning
experience.
- Ability to meet deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
- Excellent computer and spreadsheet skills - proficiency with
Deltek Costpoint or similar accounting system and report-writer
system tools preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to explain complex
financial statements and project status to non-financial
staff.
- Customer service oriented with a "can do" attitude.
- In-depth understanding of government contracts, government
grants and indirect rates.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail, ability to
multi-task.
- Proactive/critical thinker with a "sense of urgency"; ability
to connect the dots, investigate and take necessary corrective
action.
- Ability to work beyond the normal workday and on weekends as
necessary to meet certain deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, take on
multiple tasks, prioritize and achieve timely and thorough
completion of assignments.
- Passion and commitment to improving the lives of older adults
