The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.


  • Independently, or as a team leader, undertakes technically complex projects/studies for Criminal Investigation requiring coordination across functional lines Servicewide and overseas. Researches and deploys complex COTS software and integrates it into the CI network.
  • Provides guidance and assistance on the entire range of technical issues.
  • Plans, organizes, and/or leads corporate or large scale studies, project or team efforts including other subject matter specialists, involving highly technical computer network issues.
  • Identifies complex systemic network problems, provides solutions and/or procedures, or agreements to systemic changes when necessary.
  • Analyzes requests for changes and additions to the CI network to ensure efficiency and compatibility with current operating systems and network architecture.

      Qualifications

      You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:



      SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-14 LEVEL: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience that demonstrates accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a wide range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled. This knowledge is generally demonstrated through assignments that required the ability to analyze a number of alternative approaches in the process of advising management concerning major aspects of IT system design. This would include defining what system interrelationships must be considered, or what operating mode, system software, and/or equipment configuration is most appropriate for a given project.



      In addition to the above, your specialized experience should demonstrate knowledge of computer requirements and techniques in carrying out project assignments consisting of several related tasks, such as in the case of development of modifications to parts of a system on the basis of detailed specifications provided. Experience must have been in an IT field or work where the primary concern was the subject matter of the IT application. This experience must be sufficient to demonstrate the ability to work with clients and customers to assess and/or address their needs, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, identify and resolve problems, determine relevant information, demonstrate using sound judgment, and make decisions and/or recommendations relevant to this level of expertise. Experience serving as a local area network (LAN) manager with enterprise-wide LAN systems; Identifying and controlling all LAN hardware and software configuration; Developing technical standards and procedures for LAN development, implementation, and management; Establishing performance management metrics; Evaluating overall LAN performance against relevant standards; and providing technical advice and consultation to LAN administrators throughout the agency. Experience in monitoring, installing and troubleshooting Cisco network devices connected to wide, metropolitan, and local area networks; Experience needed troubleshooting Data, Video, Wireless devices and Remote Access; and Experience with project management of an enterprise wide information technology initiative.



      Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis.
