Spirit of America is seeking a Financial Controller to support the organization's growth. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller will have primary responsibility for Spirit of America's accounting and financial reporting functions. As a member of a fast-paced, dynamic organization, the Controller must be willing and able to perform a wide range of accounting and finance functions to support Spirit of America's continued success. Key Responsibilities: Supervise employees in preparing monthly close and financial reports Monitor financial reports for accuracy, completeness, and identify cost savings Prepare financial analysis statements including monthly balance sheets, income statements, cash flows statements, and various financial reports Provide high level financial reporting and analysis Enforce GAAP principles Lead the annual audit and tax return preparation process Supervise the Accounting Assistant Manage the daily activities of the accounting department Oversee the posting and maintenance of general ledger accounts, accounts payable and general ledger adjustments Prepare reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, cash advances, payroll and more Oversee the management of schedules as needed: Fixed Assets, Prepaids, Investment schedules, leases Requirements Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field CPA and minimum 7 years practical accounting experience required Experience working in nonprofit and fundraising organizations is a plus. Excellent written and oral communication skills, a strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational and analytical skills are required. Knowledge and/or experience with Salesforce, Adobe, and Box is a plus. Must be self-directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision.
