Position Summary

This position involves working on site at the Department of Defense (DoD) in Alexandria, Virginia (telework currently anticipated until at least March 2022, pending DoD office reopening). This position will work with government staff and other members of an internal DoD research and data team to provide in-depth research consultation on the development, design, analysis, and reporting of DoD sexual assault research. The ideal candidate will have subject matter expertise in sexual assault prevention/response and/or gender studies, experience conducting research in a military context, demonstrated experience in coordinating, critiquing, and executing quantitative and qualitative research, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.


  • Provides independent, expert advice on the development, design, analysis, and reporting of DoD sexual assault and related behavioral health research efforts and critical analyses of other agencies' research efforts and products
  • Reviews research proposals, studies, award submissions, study results, and published research to identify strengths, challenges, and methodological concerns. Suggests revisions to address identified concerns
  • Reviews, advises, and drafts revisions of proposed DoD and Military Service Academy survey and focus group methods and instruments and highlight strengths, challenges, and methodological concerns that could affect the quality of the research effort
  • Maintains ongoing knowledge of the scientific literature applicable to sexual violence and distills findings for government staff
  • Ensures all reports and products use proper technical terminology translated into clear, readable deliverables suitable for both technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Manages and contributes to the production of rapid-turnaround, ad hoc requests as needed

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in public policy, sociology, demography, statistics, psychology, public health, education, economics, or related field with 3 or more years of related work experience in federal contracting and military research/policy

      • 3+ years of military research/policy or private sector consulting experience
      • Expert knowledge of sexual assault and/or gender studies; knowledge of sexual assault within the military context and military populations preferred
      • Ability to obtain a National Agency Check with Inquiries clearance, Public Trust, or DoD Clearance; active clearance(s) preferred
      • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team
      • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
      • 4+ years in qualitative and quantitative research methods
      • Able to produce excellent work within parameters of instructions provided, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
      • Strong attention to detail and project management skills
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • Experience working with DoD or conducting research on military populations preferred
