Description Producer, General Assignment - PBS NewsHour Full-time, Regular Reports to: Senior Producer, Field Segments ABOUT THE ROLE As our Producer, General Assignment will research, budget and produce high quality, innovative content on a wide variety of topics both on television and online for the PBS NewsHour Weekend. You will collaborate with the senior production team and Executive Producer. You will also be a mentor to more junior producers and help them bring their skills to the next level. YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS You will get up to speed on all the show's main infrastructure: how to book talk segments, produce and write short day-of-air tape pieces. You will shadow a general assignment producer on at least one field package to learn our pitch to air process. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE You are regularly contributing to both features and in-depth news reporting. You bring a vibrancy and terrific ideas to pitch meetings. Your demonstrated passion for knowing the ideal way to produce content and ability to seamlessly jump from project to project will enable you to flourish. You've developed trust with executive leadership. You have grown your own skills and those of junior producers, and can point to evidence in the team's improved reporting. You've consistently produced at least two pieces per month (more if they are arts related). WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Willingness to work a weekend schedule
  • Constant stream of ideas that could work for different platforms
  • Excellent writing skills for a two-minute day-of-air package to a 9-minute piece that's part of a series.
  • Team attitude with a collaborative spirit
  • Capable of juggling multiple stories in different stages of production
  • Ability to pivot and realign with a new task quickly
  • Demonstrated knowledge in national and international news production management for daily, 24/7 or weekly television and digital outlets, including breaking news and feature story telling
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the field and in studio production of news, preferably for a daily, 24/7 or weekly outlet
  • Demonstrated knowledge in producing television news packages from 2 to 7 minutes long
  • Demonstrated knowledge in book talk segments
  • Extensive knowledge of broadcast video production
  • Shooting video and non-linear editing experience is required Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite. WHAT WE OFFER
