We are looking for a strong Systems Engineering and Operations Leader to contribute to the growth of our organization within Amazon Web Services.

A successful Manager in the AWS DBS org will do much more than lead teams of Systems Engineers in writing code, launching new features, and triaging problems. A successful candidate will be a hands-on manager with an established background in developing and operating platforms and services, developing and hiring extraordinary talent, have strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment.

This role could in our new headquarters in Northern Virginia, where Amazon will invest $2.5 billion dollars, occupy 4 million square feet of energy efficient office space, and create at least 25,000 new full-time jobs. We're also interested in candidates who would prefer to consider Herndon Virginia or Seattle Washington home.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

This position can be based in Arlington, VA, Herndon, VA or Seattle, WA.

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 7+ years building and operating large-scale software systems
  • 5+ years of experience with at least 1 year in a Software Development Manager role managing managers.
  • 5+ years of experience managing systems development and/or support efforts in an agile environment
  • 2+ years of experience in preparing quality metrics and effectively engaging with stakeholders to set and drive quality goals
  • Able to work in a diverse team
  • Success delivering products/services in a high-growth environment, exhibiting strong ability to identify and solve ambiguous customer-focused problems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work successfully with teams across the organization
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and perceptions
  • Experience with Analytics or Database technologies
  • High attention to detail with proven ability to juggle multiple, conflicting priorities simultaneously and make things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Proven skills designing and developing simple solutions to complex problems
  • Good understanding of platforms and technologies with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
  • You have a track record of delivering technical programs, projects, and products in a highly technical multi-team environment
  • Excellent written, spoken, and listening communication skills
  • Past US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above a plus!
