ASTHO is seeking to host a George Mason University (Master of
Public Health) graduate research assistant for the 2021 2022
academic year! ASTHO is an exciting and rewarding environment in
which to work, and a place where the contributions of graduate
students are valued.
- The ASTHO scholar will be assigned to a department and will
report to the Senior Director or the designee to assist with
departmental goals and initiatives.
- Researches and analyzes policy issues related to various
aspects of public health.
- Assists with deliverables of federally funded projects related
to public health and identified departmental goals.
- Regularly reports on project activities such as: summarizing
key take-aways from conference calls and external public health
- Provides support for meeting planning and contract
- Must prove acceptance into the George Mason University Public
Health Program and enrolled for at least nine hours of graduate
work during the semesters in which they are employed.
- Students receiving assistantships must be in good academic
standing (a minimum 3.0 GPA) and maintain good academic standing
for the duration of the position.
- Enrollments will be monitored throughout the duration of the
add/drop period, and tuition will not be paid unless you are
enrolled for the required minimum number of credit hours.
- Must agree to work with ASTHO for one year as a full-time
regular employee in an analyst or equivalent position receiving a
competitive salary after completion of MPH.

ASTHO is the only national, nonprofit organization representing
the nations state and territorial public health officials and the
agencies they serve. ASTHOs members, the chief health officials of
all 50 states in the United States, the District of Columbia, the
five U.S. territories, and the three freely-associated states, are

policy, assuring excellence in public health practice, and
advancing health equity and optimal health for all. ASTHO is
headquartered in Arlington, Virginia and opened a second office
location in Atlanta, Georgia in 2017. ASTHO was incorporated on
March 23, 1942 with the goal of helping health officials navigate a
rapidly changing public health landscape and remains a strong voice
in governmental public health to this day. ASTHOs mission is to
