The Team:

The Employee Services US Unemployment team provides US states with complete and timely information in response to claims for unemployment insurance benefits. Our global team collaborates with a wide variety of Amazon businesses, saves time for our internal Human Resources (HR) stakeholders, and delivers meaningful financial savings. We serve as US Unemployment subject matter experts with internal stakeholders such as HR Business Partners, Tax, and Legal.

The Role:

Amazon is seeking a Program Manager who will improve US unemployment insurance (UI) claims outcomes and increase the efficiency of processes. This is a new role on the team with opportunity to showcase an HR program management skillset while making immediate contributions to team goals. The role requires a candidate who is highly organized, works effectively with internal and external contacts, has the ability to shift gears at a moment's notice, and enjoys the challenges of developing and improving processes in a dynamic organization. Success in this role will require excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfort working with large amounts of data, and the customer service focus that the world associates with and expects from Amazon. The Program Manager will represent the US Unemployment program with internal stakeholders.

The Program Manager will be responsible for leading and executing activities to achieve efficiency and unemployment tax savings by:

  • Identifying and advocating for scalable technical (and non-technical) solutions
  • Building cross-functional partnerships, working closely with HR, Payroll, Technology, Legal, and other departments to achieve program objectives
  • Identifying and capturing process improvements with HR Business Partners to drive increased customer engagement
  • Creating and optimizing workflows and data visualizations
  • Coordinating with an Unemployment vendor on data analysis and strategic opportunities
  • Conducting necessary communications, project management, and change management activities
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field
  • 5+ years exposure to US Unemployment claims or hearings from an employer, vendor, or government perspective
  • 6+ years of HR or program management related experience
  • Experience creating, monitoring, and improving operational metrics
  • Proven analytical and quantitative skills; experience using data to back up assumptions, make recommendations, and drive actions
  • Experience working cross-functionally with multiple stakeholder teams, including HR, operations, Legal, Payroll, and/or Information Technology
  • Knowledge of HR processes and systems such as PeopleSoft, with ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Ownership of an HR-based team or program
  • Successful record of building, improving, and running operational business processes with high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Able to work with financial analyses, assess and mitigate risk, forecast both long- and short-term outcomes, and anticipate and navigate financial scenarios
  • Ability to influence all levels of the organization, including policy makers and operational teams
  • Experience documenting business requirements, performing user acceptance testing, and/or creating process documentation for moderate-to-complex processes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Graduate degree in business or a related field
