Position Description:

Systems Engineer - Transport IP: Provides engineering services to sustain existing DoD terrestrial, and wireless transport infrastructures and their approved architectures in the NCR Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) and Wide Area Network. Maintain and sustain a secure and resilient network infrastructure for the DoD by connecting headquarters elements war fighters to each other and to their sustaining bases; U.S. Forces to their coalition partners; and DoD to intelligence and federal, state, and local agencies.

Candidate must demonstrate a high degree of expertise in the areas of LANs, MAN, WANs, firewall services, network monitoring tools, router, and switch configuration. As System Engineer, candidates must analyze communications, create plans for the network, present it to senior management, be up to date on the latest technology, understand, and determine the hardware and wiring needs. The candidate will provide experience in local and wide area network design and analysis, disaster recovery planning and implementation, storage technologies (i.e., Storage Area Network), AD design, implementation, and optimization; technical designs, implementation and optimization and other services related to system, software, and network engineering.

  • Act as part of escalation to incident response team to ensure quick response to information assurance notifications.
  • Implemented software upgrades, software patch installations, hardware replacements and diagnosis/resolution of any software/hardware issues.
  • Use network-monitoring tools to optimize, improve, expand, and upgrade server and network capabilities and connectivity.
  • Review system logs to determine usage levels, bandwidth, performance, and security of systems.
  • Assist with the installation of new hardware and software making sure that all components (hardware and software) interface correctly with each other and the network
  • Open and follow through on basic trouble tickets with various telecommunications providers.
  • Work with other teams and groups to resolve various outages, major network issues.
  • Act as part of an incident response team to ensure quick response to information assurance notifications and alerts.
  • Review, monitor, and optimize system logs to determine usage levels, performance, and security posture of systems.
  • Evaluate, review, and test all new hardware and software projects, requests or upgrades to ensure that all components (hardware and software) interface correctly with each other and the network. Act as part of an incident response team to ensure quick response to information assurance notifications and alerts.
  • Review, monitor, and optimize system logs to determine usage levels, performance, and security posture of systems.
  • Evaluate, review, and test all new hardware and software projects, requests or upgrades to ensure that all components (hardware and software) interface correctly with each other and the network.
  • Delivering and providing network planning, designs, implementations, engineering, Test & Integration, CM, engineering implementation, technical/engineering documentation
  • Provide engineering services to meet existing/future customer requirements associated with architecture modifications due to natural disasters, traffic engineering, site insertion, etc
  • Provide expertise to design, plan, test integration, and deploy of any IPv6 implementation technique into the actual JSP operational network, as well as performing extensive technical analyses to ensure overall network's mission integrity
  • Providing IP network designs, operational engineering, Test and Integration, CM, engineering implementation, technical/analytical performance analysis, technical/engineering documentation

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

  • DevSecOps deployment model - Understanding of Agile methodology. CMMI, ITIL a plus
  • Clouds (MilCloud 2.0, Amazon Web Services [AWS], Azure)
  • Multi Router Traffic Grapher/Paessler Router Traffic Grapher/Cacti software.
  • Network Equipment - routers, switching, load balancers (CISCO, Juniper, Arista, Entrasys, etc.)
  • Joint Information Environment (JIE)/Joint Regional Security Stacks (JRSS)
  • Disaster Recovery Planning - to include command and control, cloud based, and traditional data center)
  • Remote Access Technologies - mobile (Apple/Android), VPN, DMVPN, IPSec, VDI (Citirx/AWS Workspace/Azure)
  • CM and Change Control
  • Various Monitoring Tools - Riverbed, Solarwinds, etc.
  • Develop and coordinate detailed proposals for implementation of new technologies
  • Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing as a primary technology, with optical channels at transmission speeds of 100 Giga bites per second
  • Internet Protocol (IPv4 & IPv6) engineering services
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Collaborative engineering with other team members

Knowledge and Experience

  • 7-10 years of experience
  • BA/BS or equivalent years of experience
  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • CCNP Enterprise or CCNP Service Provider
  • Understanding of DoD, DISA cybersecurity requirements

Desired Experience

  • DoD TOP SECRET/SSBI eligible
  • DI2E Experience (DevSecOps)
  • DISA Experience
  • JSP Experience
  • IPV4 and IPV6 design and testing
