Senior Biosecurity Associate


Merrick is seeking an experienced Senior Biosecurity Associate with a strong background in biosecurity, risk and threat assessment and management, information technology (IT) security, life sciences programs, and laboratory operations. This Associate administer project management, provide technical reviews of products and programs, and lead client projects with significant science components in the broader Washington, DC area. The individual will join our growing Merrick team, and will be based full-time at our client location in Lorton, VA - approximately 17 miles south of our Arlington, VA office.


* Client projects for this position require US Citizenship. * Active US DOD Secret clearance, or the ability and willingness to obtain Secret clearance, is required.

Job Description

As a Senior Biosecurity Associate, the successful candidate will:

* Manage and/or support multi-disciplinary life sciences related projects to be executed primarily out of the client's Lorton, VA office. * Actively support significant U.S. government projects and clients requiring a high-degree of life sciences, risk/threat assessment/management, and biosecurity acumen. * Work with other subdisciplines within the project team to integrate strategic planning and execution of multi-discipline efforts. * Provide biosecurity advisory and technical services to a large team of scientists, project managers, acquisition experts, and/or engineers on projects in a variety of international geographic locations. * Communicate and coordinate with all project stakeholders as required for successful project execution. * Maintain and develop positive client relationships. * Perform technical review of training programs, laboratory floorplans, workflows, procurement lists, and/or scientific programming documents to assess compliance with international biosafety, biosecurity, and/or biosurveillance standards. * Be available to travel, including internationally, for project work, site inspections, assessments, and training programs. * Have or be able and willing to obtain security clearance for work with the U.S. Federal Government.

General Management skills and responsibilities may include:

* Senior subject matter expert representation for other technical/scientific staff. * Flexibility and experience to receive and disposition a variety of technical and administrative inquiries and issues on a daily basis. * May be tasked to participate in a variety of professional and/or social societies or programs designed to elevate Merrick's professional and community standing. * High degree of professionalism, integrity, and business ethics required.

Required Experience and Qualifications

* Demonstrated scientific technical experience to develop, evaluate, and review multi-disciplinary life sciences/biosafety/biosecurity/logistics/ health security projects. * Excellent written and oral communication skills. * Strong interpersonal skills to interface successfully with clients and teammates. * Demonstrated experience in developing, reviewing, and implementing highly technical projects (biological containment or other life sciences facilities) and operational programs (biosafety and biosecurity management systems and programs). * Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a biosecurity-specific role, including risk and threat management. * MA/MS degree or equivalent from an A.B.E.T. accredited University or Higher Education Institution. * Good working knowledge of the life sciences, biosafety, and biosecurity fields, emerging technologies, government/academic/industrial programs * Past performance working in or for U.S. federal agencies (i.e., DoD, DHS, HHS) strongly preferred. * Local candidates preferred, or willingness to relocate/commute to Northern Virginia/ Relocation will be considered. * Domestic and international travel required - 25% to 50%. * Client projects for this position require United States Citizenship.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as but not limited to computers, copiers, printers, scanners, and plotters.
