Job Description:

DESCRIPTION KEY ROLE

Work as a technical consultant tothe Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Biological TechnologiesOffice (BTO) supporting the development and management of current and plannedresearch and development (R&D) programs, including helping to build an emerging program to explore the use of cellular engineering to provide augmented performance, tissue regeneration, and resilience to infectiousdisease.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess developments in emerging science and engineering technologies
  • Interact with world leaders in both industry and academia while serving as a representative of DARPA
  • Facilitate and orchestrate collaborative engagement among various teams with other technologies currently under development within related programs
  • Maintain and leverage technical expertise to provide clients with strategic assessments of new technologies and develop technical research programs
  • Interact with top scientists and engineers to guide their research toward new and revolutionary advances
  • Create technical reports, communicate findings to stakeholders, track and guide technical progress of client contracts, and perform other related tasks as required by the client
  • Engage with end users and customers to transition technologies, including maintaining cooperative engagements andfacilitating stakeholder engagements

QUALIFICATIONS

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology, biomedical engineering, or other relevant field
  • Postdoctoral or equivalent industry experience and/or significant years (4+) of laboratory experience in understanding synthetic eukaryotic cellular engineering, synthetic biology, genetic analysis, epigenetics, metabolomics, and phenotype-genotype relationships
  • Experience in engineering or modifying T-cell, natural killer cell, or other cell types in clinical/animal studies, especially in the context of treating infectious disease or encouraging tissue regeneration is highly desired.
  • Ideal candidates will have a deep knowledge of emerging trends in cellular engineering and knowledge or experience in designing vectors or transfection systems that are compatible with FDA regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to obtain aUS Government SECRET security clearance. Active clearance strongly preferred.
  • Relocation to the Washington, DC metro area

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in providing technical program management
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific ideas to broad audiences, digest basic and applied research across areas of biotechnology, and apply to DoD capability gaps
  • Ability and willingness to explore scientific literature for emerging technologies and learn completely new research subjects
