Water Safety Outreach and Ranger Interns (Local Candidates Only) Expected Dates May 9, 2021 to August 28, 2021 Site Alum Creek Lake Position ID PO-00731538Local Applicants OnlyWater Safety and Interpretation InternsThe interns will provide interpretative assistance in the implementation of the U.S. Army Corps Water Safety Program by presenting water safety programs at schools, parks, and special events; provide guided dam tours; and accompany rangers during vehicle and boat patrols.Other duties may include updating bulletin boards, working on interpretive displays, stocking and distributing informative material in information centers, sta?ng information centers in times of high visitation, providing interpretive talks, and updating the public on lake and weather conditions via recorded daily voice messages.Light maintenance tasks may be required to make repairs in recreation area. The interns may also assist with setting up and sta?ng water safety booths at county/state fairs by providing water safety information to the public, while representing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Daily tasks will include interacting with visitors, interpretation, and telling the Corps story.This position provides:- $125 weekly Living Allowance- $600 monthly Housing Allowance- $75 weekly Commuting AllowanceThis position is an AmeriCorps program and acceptance of AmeriCorps membership is required. The AmeriCorps Education Award received upon successful completion of this position is $1,638.89.All allowances subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.It is SCAs policy that all AmeriCorps-required background checks must return cleared results prior to the positions start; this includes being fingerprinted for the FBI check. Otherwise, the AmeriCorps award will be removed or the positions start date will be delayed due to non-compliance. + Location Description Alum Creek Lake is 7 miles north of Columbus, OH with easy access to I-71. Visitation to the park is approximately 4 million annually. The local community is very active and there are always lots of activities going on. Alum Creek Lake provides ?ood control as well as a multitude of recreational opportunities. + Training Provided On the job training including boat operations, First Aid and CPR + Educational/Recreational Opportunities Easy access to beach area, marina, fishing, hiking trails, fitness facilities and more.
