Apogee Research is at the forefront of a revolution in how the DoD fields weapon systems: a turn towards compositional systems of systems instead of traditional monolithic architectures. This change is driven by a need for faster adaptation to adversarial environments, which requires traditionally slow processes like systems engineering and systems integration to occur in days to weeks rather than months to years. Apogee Research's pioneering STITCHES toolchain [1] is enabling a step change in the speed and flexibility of systems integration the advantages of STITCHES have been demonstrated in flight tests [2] and the transitions are being pushed by both the Air Force [3] and the US Congress [4]. We are looking for systems-level thinkers with relevant domain expertise to help us both demonstrate STITCHES in several operational scenarios and to pioneer similarly revolutionary approaches to rapid systems engineering at scale.
Founded in 2012, Apogee Research brings together cross-discipline teams to develop novel approaches to key National Security challenges across many domains (ISR, Electronic Warfare, Data Fusion, Cyber Networking Operations, etc.) and then transition them into operational settings. At every step, we partner with other commercial organizations that build and develop operational systems as well as with the military operators that use them to ensure our ideas solve real problems and have a wide base of support.
The position is in our Arlington, VA office. Existing DoD Top Secret clearance is preferred, otherwise all candidates must be eligible to obtain one and therefore all candidates must be a US citizen to apply.
Position Responsibilities:

• Help design architectures of heterogeneous systems that solve key problems for our customers
• Develop technical models and simulations to inform architectural recommendations
• Work with internal and external teammates to implement the architecture with real hardware
• Assist in the design and execution of experiments and test events
• Help develop new tools and technologies for ensuring and analyzing the resilience and robustness of the solutions in uncertain environments
  Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience working with real systems, preferably with visibility across design, modeling, test, and use
  • Deep understanding in some DoD relevant domains (relevant areas include tracking and estimation, sensor phenomenology (RF, IR, etc.), onboard and offboard networking, mission planning, etc.)
  • Relevant experience using standard analysis tools (e.g. Matlab, Ansys), domain specific tools, or writing software in Java, Python, or C/C++
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in relevant technical field (e.g. Engineering, Applied Math/Physics, Computer Science/Engineering, etc.) or operational field experience
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and remain well organized in a fast-paced environment
