Being at the cutting edge of space technology, we need someone who is eager to learn, grow, and take on new and potentially unfamiliar challenges. There is no shortage of fascinating questions to be answered.The will be responsible for developing and running systems-level models of Airbus spacecraft platforms, especially Arrow. This engineer will be involved with systems design and modelling throughout the satellite lifecycle, from proposal to mission execution. They will work with internal and external stakeholders to identify analysis questions and use a mix of commercial tools, such as STK, and models developed in-house to answer them. In addition to program-specific simulation tasks, the engineer will contribute to the development of Mimic, a medium-fidelity spacecraft system model of the Arrow platform.The Software Engineer will support moderate and complex assignments, under the leadership of the Software Engineering Manager and other senior Software Engineers.High-Performance Spacecraft Modeling: 45%Contribute to the development of MimicWork with stakeholders to identify new questions that Mimic can answerWork with domain experts to develop representative models of Arrow subsystemsDevelop a flexible workflow for easy execution of Mimic by non-developersValidate the results of Mimic against higher fidelity models and the Arrow FlatSatDisseminate modelling results in presentations and prose within Airbus U.S. and beyondSystems Modeling 45%Systems modeling of Arrow and other Airbus satellite missions in STKDesign and create tools for use throughout Airbus U.S., working with stakeholder to define requirements and objectivesSupport the spacecraft customization for customer mission needs.Additional Responsibilities 10%Support working groups, both internal and with customers and/or vendorsSupport proposal writing, new businessAssess the software impacts of new hardware, conops, and missionsQualified Experience / Skills / Training:Education:Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.Preferred: Master's in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.Experience:A minimum of 3 years with a Bachelor's degree, or 1 year with a Master's degree.Software development experience is highly desirableKnowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:Insatiable curiosity and a demonstrated ability to learn and work independentlyProgrammingOutstanding programming skills and a passion for high-quality, test-driven codeExperience with Python or Matlab for scientific computingAt least one other programming language (strongly preferred: Rust)Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, including design patternsPreferred: Experience with the full software lifecycleSatellite SystemsExperience using STK to model satellite systems and missionsPreferred: Satellite-related domain expertise in one or more areas such as satellite subsystems, payloads, mission architectures, ground infrastructurePreferred: Familiarity with systems engineering design processesTravel Required: Periodic travel (less than 20%) to Airbus U.S. facilities or partner companies Occasional International travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterpartsEligibility: US CitizenshipClearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above highly desirablePhysical Requirements:Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents.Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms.Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment.Carrying: able to carry documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.Lifting: able to lift documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.Squatting / Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.Standing: able to stand for long periods of time.Walking: able to walk through office and outside areas including uneven surfaces.Equal Opportunity: Airbus U.S. Space & Defense, Inc. is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
