Job Description Job Description Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1 years Stepdown RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A professional registered nurse (RN) with stepdown experience is sought to provide patient care on a Cardio-Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit located in Richmond, VA. This contract role offers either a 36 or 48-hour guaranteed work schedule with 12-hour day shifts, including every other weekend and major holiday coverage. Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius as local travel is not accepted. Success in this role requires passing an EKG exam at orientation. Key Qualifications: - Current RN license (state or compact) - BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Certification required - Minimum 1 year RN experience; acute care hospital experience preferred - Ability to manage cardiac drips (no vasopressors), chest tubes, hemodynamic monitoring, and conscious sedation administration - Strong clinical judgment and proficiency with Alaris pumps and cardiac monitoring equipment - Excellent communication, collaboration, and patient advocacy skills Responsibilities: - Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care - Administer medications safely and effectively in line with policies - Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and serve as a patient/family liaison - Support patients with cardiac conditions including heart block and chronic cardiac diseases - Maintain adherence to safety standards and quality improvement initiatives - Float to other units when needed to support stepdown patient care Work Environment:The 27-bed Cardio-Pulmonary unit utilizes advanced equipment including Hoyer lifts, BiPAP, Sara Stedy, PCA, and GlucoStabilizer. Staff-to-patient ratios generally range between 1:3 and 1:4 depending on unit needs. Candidates should be prepared for occasional physical exertion such as lifting and assisting patients as well as working in a fast-paced, high-stress setting.
