Overview:Orthopedic TechnicianThe Orthopedic Technician is
responsible for providing and applying specialized equipment to
patients, assisting physicians in the implementing of orthopedic
procedures, maintaining orthopedic equipment in good working order,
and for assisting in teaching traction and casting techniques when

patients.Qualifications:High School Diploma or Equivalent
preferred.One year of related experience
preferred.Responsibilities:Demonstrates proper application of all
equipment. Explains use of equipment to patients and when
indicated, to family members. Makes regular rounds, checking on
patient's condition and tolerance to traction equipment. Recognizes
the potential for skin breakdown in the geriatric patient. Uses
protective padding to maintain patient's skin integrity.Assists
both professional staff and other technicians in understanding the
use of traction equipment. Serves as an effective resource to all
staff when requested.Documents all traction applications and/or
adjustments in the patient's chart. Assists Physicians with
traction application as requested. Applies or removes casts
following instructions of the Physician. Inspects casts for signs
of deterioration.Instructs patients and staff in routine cast care.
Reports patient's tolerance to traction equipment to nursing
staff.Initiates charges, makes frequent rounds and documents chares
on a daily basis. Provides accurate and complete charges.Supports
department by implementing cost containment and revenue gathering
activities.Reports equipment malfunction or loss to Traction
Manager immediately.Keeps traction room, cast room and traction
cart fully stocked at all times.Performs routine cleaning,
utilizing standard precautions.Anticipates the need for additional
equipment and reports need to Traction Manager. Assures that
discontinued equipment is cleared from patient's room, cleaned and
is ready for use as soon as possible.Informs Traction Manager, OR
Coordinator and CDN of concerns and events. Responds to requests
from Nursing Supervisor or Nursing Staff as soon as requested.
Requests supervision for any procedure not fully
