Job Description:
Job Description Provides clinical services according to
ultrasound practice standards and acts as a resource to students,
residents, fellow and other technologists, to ensure optimal
department functions. Administers sound patient care practices
according to hospital and department policies and procedures, to
ensure the safety of the patients. Completes ancillary tasks to
ensure efficient and consistent departmental operations.
Demonstrates safety for patients, staff and self as outlined in
department protocols and regulatory guidelines, to ensure the
safety of patients and staff. Maintains equipment, exam rooms and
work areas in a neat and safe condition, to ensure the safety of
the patients and employees. Job Responsibilities Communicates
effectively with patient to obtain clinical history/informed
consent from patient or patient's chart to assist the physician in
optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination,
as evidenced by the exam results. Explains procedure to
patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and
assure patient cooperation, as evidence by customer satisfaction.
Assists the physician in performing a variety of examinations using
standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile
technique, as evidenced by Radiologist's satisfaction. Demonstrates
the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may
interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them
and produce the most desirable outcome, as evidence by exam results
and patient satisfaction. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of
IV's heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to
Sonography, as evidenced by observations by supervisor and peers.
Demonstrates proper technique for injection of IV contrast, or
other test-enhancing solution, under the Society of Diagnostic
Medical Sonography Standards. Correctly identifies patients and
their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the
lack of mislabeled films and files. Identifies errors and takes
immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the Radiology
Information Systems, EMR and PACS Systems reports. Tracks patients
according to department procedures. . Participates in
department/hospital performance improvement initiatives,
in-services and meetings, as evidenced by attendance records.
Demonstrates patient safety in department by use of side rails,
braking mechanisms and patient monitoring, as demonstrated by risk
management reports. Reports, documents and corrects any adverse,
unsafe or unusual conditions, as evidenced by the patient/employee
incidence reports ot department specific log books. Troubleshoots
equipment effectively and reports equipment to biomedical
engineering/vendor, as evidenced by service reports.
Performs/recognizes need for routine maintenance of
imagers/processors and ultrasound equipment to maintain consistent
quality images, as evidenced by the physician and the exam results.
Operates imaging and other related equipment according to
manufacturer's specifications, as evidenced by exam results.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of ultrasound principles and
theory as it relates to the cardiovascular system, anatomy and
pathology processes utilizing the most appropriate technique and/or
positioning for optimal examinations, as demonstrated by exam
results. Adheres to department policies and protocols ensuring all
examinations are optimized for interpretation, as demonstrated by
exam results. Demonstrates the ability and skills to assist in
teaching ultrasound students sound ultrasound principles as
required by Inova. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Cardiac
anatomy, pathology as well as physiology. Additional Requirements
Experience: RDMS or RVT or registry eligible. If registry eligible
must obtain registration with ARDMS or ARRT within 24 months of
eligibility. Recent experience in a hospital/healthcare environment
as a sonographer or sonographer student. Education: Graduate of an
accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. RDMS or RVT or
registry eligible. must be registry eligible, and obtain
certification within one year of hire date. Certification: ARRT,
ARDMS Certification as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or must be
registry eligible, and obtain certification within one year of hire
date., ARRT, ARDMS Certification as a Diagnostic Medical
Sonographer or obtained within one year of hire into position.
Current BLS certification required (AHA), Current CPR certification
required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Effective
interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task and make clinical
decisions to facilitate patient care. Working knowledge of
Microsoft Office and spreadsheets as needed to facilitate clinical
care as well as EMR and PACS troubleshooting as required. About Us
