Position SummaryProvides administrative support and clinical assistance for Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and patients for the Department of Surgery.-- -Essential Duties and Responsibilities:-- -To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.-- - Other duties may be assigned.Assists PODIATRIST inpatient care.Prepares patients for treatment, sterilizes instruments, performs general office duties, and assists PODIATRIST in preparing dressings, administering treatments, developing x rays, taking patient vital signs, and recording their medical history.Assists PODIATRIST who specializes in treating foot, lower leg, and ankle problems.Assist PODIATRIST to examine patients who complain of various concerns, including ankle sprains, ingrown toenails, or skin conditionsAssist PODIATRIST with patients suffering from complications related to diabetes or obesity.May assist a PODIATRIST during surgery and provide patients with the directions they are to follow once they get home.May also be required to make impressions, or castings, of a patient's feet.Podiatry Assistants can only do clippings after the patient is evaluated by a podiatrist.Takes inventory of supplies, equipment, and medication, ensures clinical areas are well stocked, and ensures expiration dates have not lapsed.Position assists at the front desk as needed and receives callers and takes messages as necessarySchedules patient appointments, tests, and procedures using a computerized scheduling system; prepares appointment notices; provides patient instructions verbally or in writing in order for the patient to prepare for an appointment.Computer Skills--Touchworks/IDX/Touch ChartManage Call In/Rejected Rx task listReschedule bumped appointmentsScan information into charts and print information from electronic records when neededPrioritize and complete all tasks with documentation if necessary reassign appropriatelyTask or fax procedural reports, labs & reports to referring physiciansCheck task list and process messages if necessary (Follow My Health etc.)Essential Clinical Duties and ResponsibilitiesEscortResponsible for clinic patient flow, informing physicians of patients' arrival and room assignmentRooming patientsAccompanies and/or assists patients to the exam room in a professional mannerObtains patient vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.-- - Pulse oximetry if needed.-- -Vital SignsAble to perform using manual equipment and Welch Allen spot vital sign machine and import results to electronic medical record in a timely fashionAssist physicians during examinations and proceduresThis includes setting up the exam room and preparing the patientPerforms tests/proceduresSimple dressing changes, change wound and post-op dressingAssists in explaining test procedures to patientsCommunicates laboratory and test results to physiciansMay assist with other support activities, including packaging and sterilizing equipment and supplies.Maintains patient areas clean and safeMaintains and improves knowledge and expertise through continuous trainingKnowledge and performance of sterile techniques required.Provides excellent customer service by demonstrating positive behaviors towardsPatients, families/visitors, providers, other department staff, and co-workers.Performs other duties as assignedQualificationsEducation-- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- -High school graduate and graduate from a Medical Assistant School.-- -Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant is required and required to keep current.-- -Experience-- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- -Two years of experience in general patient care. Hospital, physician's office, or ambulatory care setting preferred.-- -Experience in the Podiatric setting is a plus.-- -Two years of administrative experience in a fast-paced healthcare setting.Experience working with patient records, billing, and scheduling in a clinical setting is needed for this position.Typing skill of 30 WPM is necessary.Two years of customer service experience in a patient care environment, including six months of experience in patient scheduling, is preferred.Experience utilizing a computerized patient scheduling system or computer terminals is necessary.Familiarity with medical insurance and medical terminology is preferred along with referral and prescription intake experience.Knowledge of IDX patient scheduling/ registration systems is preferred. Bi-lingual preferred.
