Job Description:
The American Public Power Association (APPA) is seeking an
Education & Conference Manager, this individual will play an
integral role in developing, planning, and managing APPA Academy
in-person, online, and on-demand events in addition to special
projects related to education. Oversees and directs all aspects of
the Business & Financial Conference, Engineering & Operations
Conference, and other events as assigned. Works with education team
on content development and oversight for conferences and courses
(in-person and virtual).

Please note: This is not a remote position. Candidates must be in
DC, Maryland, or Virginia area. APPA offers a flexible work
schedule for full-time employees and the option for telework is
available after (3) months of employment (with supervisor
approval).

- Contributes to the organization and management of the Education
Department-providing input on department strategy and direction for
over 100 events, including in-person conferences and courses,
virtual summits and classes, and on-demand programs.
- Conceives, develops and oversees all aspects of the Engineering
& Operations (E&O) Conference: directs program activities,
oversees programming, provides staff and committee direction, sets
the budget, serves as the staff liaison to the E&O section, and
evaluates results.
- Conceives, develops and oversees all aspects of the Business &
Financial Conference: directs program activities, oversees
programming, provides staff and committee direction, sets the
budget, serves as the staff liaison to the B&F section, and
evaluates results.
- Helps develop and oversee breakout sessions and pre-conference
seminars at the National Conference and other events as
directed.
- Develops, plans, and implements virtual and in-person education
courses (conceptualizes ideas, helps develop annual training
schedule, works with speakers on curriculum design and delivery,
manages delivery, evaluates and measures results, and helps modify
programs as needed)
- Assists with on-demand course development and
delivery.
- Ensures ongoing compliance with IACET standards by working with
instructors on course design, development and delivery; documenting
department processes and procedures; and assisting with the IACET
reaccreditation process.
- Manages special projects and performs other duties as
assigned.

- Associate's degree required. Bachelor's degree from a four-year
university (preferred).
- Five or more years of related experience.
- Ability to plan, organize and manage adult education programs
for professionals.
- Strong communication skills (written and oral), attention to
detail and ability to initiate activities.
- Demonstrated organization, project planning, time management
skills, and ability to prioritize work and multi-task in a
deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to demonstrate innovation and adaptability, able to
identify and implement new ideas.
- Experience with online program delivery and web-related
technologies
- Strong command of Microsoft Office skills.
- Ability to work effectively with other staff, members and the
public and develop strong relationships with instructors, members,
and other industry partners.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to travel out of town 3-4 times a year.
