Job Description:

Grant Thornton is seeking an experienced Internal Controls Manager to join its Risk Advisory service line and take an active role in engagement execution, project management and key business development activities. The Grant Thornton Government Risk Advisory service line is exclusively dedicated to providing specialized OMB A-123 internal controls and risk management services to the public sector. We are looking for motivated individual with the right skill sets and work ethic to join our fast growing team. Individual must have a bachelor's degree in Accounting or other related business field, with a minimum of five years of experience in Medicare and Medicaid/CHIP operations, five years of experience in AICPA consulting standards, and be proficient in internal controls. .


  • Project planning, supervision, review and completion of work.
  • Conduct an organization-wide risk assessment
  • Provides direction on strategic matters and compliance. Monitors the status of the program.
  • Acts as primary liaison to the government's Contracting Officer's Representative, other government management personnel, and customer agency representatives.
  • Responsible for review and approval of reports, work papers and findings, and adherence to applicable standards.
  • Conducts on-site quality control inspections. Must have A-123 and Internal Controls experience.
    Secondary Responsibilities:
    • Provide quality internal controls and financial management support services in accordance with the relevant regulations, government policies/procedures and client policies/procedures.
    • Perform engagement management responsibilities, including performance reviews, task delegation, project scheduling, project financials, quality review and client management.
    • Meet or exceed sales targets for new and follow-on work.
    • Manage business development activities, such as proposals, capture, account teams, whitepapers, conferences, and/or other thought leadership materials.
    • Meet or exceed targeted billing hours (utilization).
    • Act as performance manager (coach) for up to four coachees outside of engagement responsibilities.
    • Interview campus and/or experienced candidates.
      • 5 years of Medicare/Medicaid experience is required
      • Internal Controls Review experience
      • Must have a bachelor's degree in Accounting or other related business field
      • Ability to obtain and maintain certain job-related certifications if no job-related advanced degrees.
      • U.S. citizenship may be required. Ability to work in the United States indefinitely required.
      • Travel may be required.
      • Coach and mentor junior staff members.
      • Ability to work overtime required on occasion.
      • Ability to sit in an office environment for long periods of time.
      • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
      • Ability to obtain and maintain firm independence and abide by firm ethics requirements.
      • Meet or exceed continuing professional education (CPE) requirements.
