Yes Categories: Chapter Relations, Consulting Services Required Education: 4 Year Degree The Council for Exceptional is searching for a dynamic association professional to serve as our new Director of Component Relations. The Director will serve as the primary contact for 18 special interest divisions, 60+ state and territorial units and 600+ local and student chapters to support the success of the various components and their dynamic leaders. In addition to providing support, training, and guidance to our components in all facets of association management, the Director will provide and oversee the provision of fee-based managed services. For this inaugural Director, that includes serving as the part-time Executive Director of the Teacher Education Division of CEC. Through the coming years, the Director will be expected to grow the managed services portfolio by building solid relationships with volunteer leaders. As CEC is close to embarking on its 100th anniversary, we are looking for someone well-grounded in all facets of association management and not afraid to get their hands dirty as we build this new department at CEC. Reporting to and working with the Executive Director, the Director of Component Relations will help build and rebuild infrastructure to support the engagement of our 22,000 members. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Supporting Divisions, Units, and Chapters Serve as primary point of contact for all component leaders on issues involving components; Identify needs of component leaders and develop, organize and facilitate component leadership training at meetings and through online delivery. Update volunteer manuals and online volunteer resources. Provide guidance and facilitate the sharing of best practices among component leaders; Initiate, direct and distribute communication to components to support successful partnerships between the CEC and its components; Liaise with staff and components to ensure dialogue and flow of communication to support engagement; As needed, identify when staff specialists and contractors may be needed to support long-term growth of CEC components; Identify components in need of extra support and develop strategies to encourage growth and capacity; In conjunction with membership team, develop and implement annual division and chapter membership campaigns; Lead the annual summer Leadership Institute, including developing agendas, scheduling speakers, managing invitations, and working with other staff to coordinate logistics. Plan and execute a three-year (2021-2023) chapter development strategy specifically directed to growing and rebuilding CEC local and student chapters. Managed Services Develop relationships with component leaders to help them identify areas in which components would benefit from CEC-managed services, including executive leadership, communications, meeting planning, accounting, membership development and support, etc. In conjunction with the Executive Director, draft contract agreements with components to provide managed services; Deliver managed services alone or through the use of other staff specialists. Maintenance/Compliance Maintain rosters of contact for all CEC components and develop solutions to ensure contact information is regularly updated; Oversee collection of routine compliance and assurance information from components; Monitor activity of components and ensure alignment with CEC policies and appropriate laws; Develop strategies for motivating component leaders to build ongoing engagement with CEC. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience: Bachelor' degree in business, communications or a related field; Masters of Business Administration desired; Certified Association Executive (CAE) preferred; more than eight years progressively responsible leadership experience in associations; demonstrated competence in working with components (chapters, divisions, SIGS, etc); successful track record in customer service, business development, association membership, social media, online community management, and developing relationships with existing and prospective members; Ability to travel out of state to attend business events. Must be able to successfully pass background check. Association Expertise: Experience leading others in at least three of the following five areas of association work: component relations, volunteer recruitment/management, membership development and support, marketing/communications, meeting planning/education, governance, public policy. Communications: Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated success in team-oriented collaboration, including a strong ability to work harmoniously with colleagues; ability to interact professionally and effectively with many constituencies, including staff, Board of Directors and volunteer and field leaders. Reasoning Ability: Creative ability and resourceful problem-solving skills; ability to multi-task and adapt to changing needs and priorities; proven problem analysis and resolution skills at both a strategic and functional level. Math Ability: Demonstrated competence in the development and management of fiscal resources.
