Services (LDS) is the steward of the county's land development and
building construction codes and regulations, and its staff members
embrace their essential role as "first preventers." Every day,
through careful review, permitting and inspection of site and
building construction, our staff protect the health, safety,
welfare, and environment for those who live in, work in, and visit
Fairfax County. Our department also serves as the gateway to much
of the county's economic development, reviewing over 30,000
building and site plan submissions, issuing nearly 70,000 building
permits, and conducting over 220,000 building and site inspections

Under the supervision of a Permit Services supervisor, provides
excellent customer service to applicants, developers, engineers,
contractors, and citizens regarding application and plan review
status of building and site-related plans and permits. Explaines
complex construction regulations to developers, contractors, design
professionals, homeowners, constituents, and other Fairfax County
agencies. Ensures compliance with applicable codes, regulations,
and standards related to various types of construction within
Fairfax County. Ensures plans and permit applications meet minimum
submission requirements and ensure that issued permits meet the
same standards. Assists customers in person at public counters, by
email, by virtual meetings and by telephone. Using available
resources, responds to customer inquiries and project status
requests in a timely manner. Explains Fairfax County related codes,
policies, and procedures. Processes permit applications to ensure
compliance and acceptance with all applicable codes and policies.

Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent
to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of
education; plus, three years of engineering technical support work.

CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSES REQUIRED:

UNDERFILL REQUIREMENTS:
This vacancy may be underfilled at the level of Engineering
Technician I (S16, $46,384.00 - $77,305.49). The employment

the minimum qualifications of the Full Capacity position within one
year of the job announcement's closing date of 5/23/25. Upon
completion of an underfill agreement the employee will be elevated
to the level of Engineering Technician II.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to use keyboard driven equipment; orally/verbally
communicate with clients; and sit for extended periods of time. All
duties performed with or without reasonable
