(GPA) division is to understand and shape the public policy debates
affecting the foundation's work, build support for its major
program and policy objectives, and develop partnerships and
alliances that can advance the foundation's objectives nationally
and globally. Because the foundation's resources alone are not
enough to solve the challenges ahead, GPA also supports advocacy
efforts to engage diverse stakeholders and promote innovative
solutions that advance our program goals. We work in close
partnership with grantees, our colleagues in the Global Health,
Global Development, Global Growth & Opportunity, U.S. and Gender
Equality programs and Foundation Communications to build the
environment in which all people have the opportunity to lead
healthy and productive lives.The Development Policy & Finance
(DPAF) team is the foundation's development economics and finance
team, accountable for ensuring GPA's work - and by extension the
foundation's work - is informed by strong economic and financial
analysis and viewpoints, resonant with economic trends, and
connected with key decision-makers at major multilateral
development banks (MDBs), development finance institutions (DFIs)
and think tanks focused on development economics and finance. This
is not a research team but a group of economists, grant makers and
development finance experts accountable for using economic analysis
and perspectives to strengthen foundation policy and advocacy
strategies, and for growing the community of economic policymakers
engaged in foundation issues.Application Deadline: Friday, April
19, 2024Your RoleThis position brings together three complementary
needs: 1) analytic capacity to track and make meaningful use of
global/country-level data and trends in development finance and
fiscal policy; 2) strong relationship management experience to work
alongside foundation program teams and our external partners to
increase our impact; and 3) strong technical skills, namely
proficiency in writing, research, and PowerPoint). Reporting
directly to DPAF's Director, this position will work on multiple
parts of the team's portfolio. *This is a two-year limited term
employment position with salary and foundation-provided benefits
and relocation.What You'll DoDevelopment Policy and Finance
Research Assistance (50%)
- Serve as a source of in-house expertise on development policy
and finance, supporting strategy development and overall priorities
for the DPAF team and wider Global Policy and Advocacy (GPA)
division.
- Contribute to and produce research summaries and data analysis;
write reports, memos, articles, and blog posts for foundation staff
and external use in response to development policy & finance data
and trends, new research, and political / economic
developments.
- Develop tables, graphs, charts, and other graphics for
presentations and written materials.
- Attend meetings, take notes, and write summary reports of
outside policy briefings, conferences, forums, and
symposiums.International Development Finance Portfolio Support
(50%)
- Assist with the administration of and support to various bodies
of work in covering international development finance portfolio.
Workstreams include: international development finance trends and
emerging issues, setting human capital agendas with finance
ministries, advancing gender equitable structural policies, and the
nexus of climate and development finance.
- Management of a portfolio of grants to advance knowledge, test
policy solutions and implement new practice in the areas described
above, including helping to scope and implement new grants.
- Serve as a resource for relevant teams across the foundation to
ensure coordination and alignment of our global, regional, and
country specific work. This will include representing DPAF within
relevant thematic working groups and task teams, as well as
ensuring that our work is relevant and used by other teams at the
Foundation including advocacy and government relations teams.
- Facilitate, coordinate, and develop a range of projects and
activities related to advocacy in the DPAF portfolio including
writing talking points and briefs, convening partners, and
developing cross-foundation linkages to ensure DPAF research and
ideas are connected to foundation advocacy priorities.
- Participate in meetings, coordinate programmatic input, and
write and review briefs to prepare Foundation Leadership for
high-profile events.Your Experience
- Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in economics, finance,
public policy, development, consulting, or a related field.
- Sophisticated consumer - and producer - of applied policy
research and analytical work on issues of development policy.
- Excellent research, analytical, writing, PowerPoint design and
public presentation skills. Critical and creative problem
solver.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to navigate
across large institutions.
- Great teammate with the ability to be flexible and adjust to
changing circumstances.
- Ability to work as the junior member of a dynamic, flexible,
fast-paced team and able to work in a self-guided manner, running
multiple priorities and timelines.
- Proven high quality interactions with clear and consistent
communication.
- Positive relationships with relevant authorities and
policymakers around the world, including direct policy work with
governments in Africa and South Asia.
- Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.
This role will require travel to our offices in South Asia and
Africa to support our Country Finance (CF) and International
Development Finance (IDF) team initiatives, as well as to our home
office in Seattle.**Must be able to legally work in the country
where this position is located without visa sponsorship.#LI-PA1The
salary range for this role is $93,800 to $140,700 USD. We recognize
high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where
our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations
is $102,200 to $153,400 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we
strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires
salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary
range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a
candidate's job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as
