JOB SUMMARY The Senior Financial Aid Loan Specialist will be expected to work closely with the Assistant Vice President of Financial Aid and institutional colleagues to meet enrollment and retention goals. They should be an effective collaborator, working with partners across campus to develop and implement policies regarding the awarding of institutional aid in a manner that supports and promotes Marymount's enrollment and student success goals. Additionally, the Senior Financial Aid Loan Specialist will demonstrate by example a clear commitment to providing excellent service to students, families, admissions counselors, and other constituencies, reinforcing Marymount's commitment to student-centered education and development. The main focus of this position will be to process and maintain loan certification with the Department of Education and Marymount students. This individual will work directly with student and families on certifying the expected family contribution (EFC) and linking results to available financial aid options. This person should show a high aptitude towards understanding the federal and private leading options and problems solving to present our students will all available options. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist the AVP of Financial Aid in establishing and implementing financial aid guidelines, policies, and procedures as well as recommend departmental processes and procedures to increase and improve operational efficiency within the Colleague system and to ensure proper controls and regulatory compliance. Adjust student eligibility upon request for student loans based on eligibility guidelines. Communicate complex financial information and application procedures to prospective students, current students, and their families in a clear, timely and professional manner. Respond to a high volume of requests for information via email. Resolves problems by clarifying issues, researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions, escalating unresolved concerns. Monitor the day-to-day management of financial aid system programs. Troubleshoot, update, modify, and analyze information systems to ensure compliance with regulatory needs and changes. Provide Office of Admissions & Aid staff with information and training about the University's financial aid programs, as needed. Assist with Federal Pell Grant Program and Reconciliation. Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations. Participation in state, regional and national professional development activities to ensure a complete understanding of federal and state regulations and remain current on changes to the federal and state aid programs. Demonstrated management and leadership skills.Ability to multi-task. Knowledge of FISAP, Title IV compliance, and SAP for state and federal aid eligibility Collaborate with the office of information technology to upgrade/streamline all financial aid platforms. OTHER DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS Perform other duties as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS Education Bachelors' Degree; Masters preferred. Experience 5 years of experience working in higher education with at least 3 years in student financial aid. Working knowledge of awarding, disbursement, requirement tracking, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), and other basic tenets of financial aid delivery. Licenses or Certifications None. Financial Responsibility Processes or records financial transactions within established guidelines and safeguards. Reviews and/or approves financial transactions at the function or department level. May require some interpretation of policies. Makes financial decisions within University or accepted accounting guidelines, including review of financial reports, purchasing decisions, contract review/negotiation, etc. Supervision None. Special Knowledge Application of Title IV funding; comprehensive knowledge of Title IV laws and regulations; proven success in customer service and higher education; excellent written and oral communications; computer proficiency; organizational skills; experience working with a student/business information system and database.
